About
Tango Manchester
20+ YEARS OF TANGO - CONNECT, EXPLORE AND GROWING TOGETHER
Tango Manchester began life 20 years ago as an Argentine tango school created by teacher and organiser Joel Daou and group of tango pioneers. Later, he was joined by Alina Kolonitskay, whose passion for music, community and tango helped the project grow. Together with the local tango community, they shaped Tango Manchester into a recognised name in the city’s tango scene.

Today, Tango Manchester is evolving into a community-driven hub for tango around Manchester. Instead of representing a single school, the website brings together information from many organisers and tango schools: classes, practicas, milongas, marathon, festivals and more, all in one place. Dancers can easily see what’s on, discover new organisers and venues, and plan where to dance next.

The main purpose of Tango Manchester is to grow the tango community: to promote different events, support tango schools and independent organisers, and make it easier for newcomers and experienced dancers alike to connect. As the project develops, the platform aims to expand beyond Manchester and gradually include more tango activity across the UK—always with community, collaboration and inclusivity at its heart.

Our Team
Stephanie Teow and John Tan are the duo behind Manchester Pop-Up Milonga, The Big Pop Marathon and the Pop-Up Festivalito. With more than 15 years of tango experience, they both teach at TangoBar. John DJs around the world, while Stephanie pretends to be busy (and somehow gets away with it)!

Their mission is simple:
Make it easy for everyone to find places to dance, learn and enjoy tango around Manchester — keeping tango beautifully traditional, yet fresh, fun and cool.

"Tango is about connecting, laughing, embracing, and always continuing to improve your dance."

We’re always looking for more support and teamwork to help our tango community grow. If you’d like to join us and be part of the team, we’d love to hear from you!
